Confused young generation!

Dipesh, a student in Kathmandu coming from Bara, completed computer hardware course 5 years ago. And he also took mobile repairing course, when he saw the abundant usage of mobile in the market. He is not interested in all those fields now till he finished his exam of BBS final year.

He was failed in one subject in the first year, two in second year and now he is afraid of failing in 3 subjects in the third year. Now the thought of going to Japan to earn money is surfacing in his mind. The reason of that  thought coming to his mind is that he saw some lads of Anamnagar going to Japan, Australia and UK and simply get fascinated from that.

He dreams of earning boatloads of money, lying in the bed of rented house at Anamnager, in his leisure hours. He is visiting various consultancies of Kathmandu to quench his dream of going abroad. He is now interested in neither study nor doing any jobs in Nepal. "I've done 2/3 types of jobs in Kathmandu and I never felt like continuing any of those jobs." he said.

It's normal to see different future options during young age, but the teenagers and youths now seem to be extremely confused regarding their future. Most of the youths are confused as like Dipesh. They are not finding any grains of possibilities in the country. What to do next? They are baffled. Why this generation is perplexed so much?

Socialist Mrigendra Karki says, "Our country is in transnational phase, politics is not stable and consequently youths are being unstable too. And people are more ambitious than before so they are constantly seeking for newer opportunities." Ex-prime minister Baburam Bhattarai had written in his twitter few months ago that negative notions are creeping up in the present youths and they are in need of positive guidance.

Youths, willing to do something on their own are pissed off of the politics of the country. They are believing that the politicians and political parties never thought for them and they ruined the country. Probably due to that reason, they are going door to door of the consultancies to go abroad to make their future secure. Some of them are interested to do some jobs in Nepal if found, but it's hard to get the good one.

Ramesh who just resigned from the post of school teacher to go to Qatar as a salesman, while we met him in one manpower of Samakhushi, said "We can do nothing without money in our country." The discontentment of the current generation is somewhere related to money in most cases. They are also believing that the job of Nepal is not enough for them to sustain. Therefore they are waiting to leap wherever they find good opportunities of earning money. RJ Ayush Joshi, presenter of the youth-centric programme 'sathi sanga manka kura' said, "It's not good to do anything just for money. We have to work on that field which we have deep interest in. And youngsters should have patience and tenacity."

How to be patient in our context where youths are in need of  recommendations for their future right from teen-age. Joshi's suggestions on this is "Every youths should be clear about their field of interest and goal of life. Unfortunately, this generation is totally baffled on this very regard of setting goal in life. They don't see any possibilities in their field of study or in their field of interest and see opportunities in the field where people are already in or doing good. They are also not willing to do something for long."

Now the variates of jobs created are more than before so people are not willing to stay in a job for long and they want to shift to the better possibilities. Socialist Karki adds "Due to modernisation, passion towards work is declining." Joshi said, "Many youths send letters to our radio program asking, what to do in life?, Reading between the lines, fundamental understanding of life is is lacking in them. Many are studying the subjects which they are not interested at all merely due to the parental pressure and some of them are dropping-out in between."

There are many youths working despite the unwillingness to do jobs they are doing. School teachers are going to Korea as a labour. Some are coming to Kathmandu to earn money, leaving their agricultural land sterile. Those who are trained in computer and mobile filed are going to Dubai as a storekeeper. Some are dropping-out their studies and seeking for the jobs to make money. Why this is happening? What's on the mind of youths? Why they are so pessimistic and unstable? Psychologist Timothy Aryal says "Lots of things are impacting on youth-psychology. Youths always look for instant result from everything."

According to Aryal the rate of physical and mental growth is fast during young age and they seek for instant result from everything they do. Therefore they enjoy doing things which they feel comfortable and get instant results.Youths don't care seriously about their career. They have the feeling like 'I'll survive and live my life the way I want.' Aryal further adds "Youths are unstable because they don't see any scope of the things they are doing now. The problem of youth instability is also in the USA but their nature is different." If the youths of the country keep on being confused doesn't it create any future problems? Socialist Karki said "It brings  a serious social imbalance."
